Shoplifting Couple In Leesburg Swiped $158K In Merch From Stores Across DMV: Police

A couple accused of stealing more than $158,000 from retails stores across the DMV and North Carolina has been arrested.

Roxana Dumitru, 29, and Ionut-Robert Ionescu, 30, both of Laurel, MD, are accused of stealing approximately $6,400 worth of merchandise from the Ulta store on Village Market Boulevard in Leesburg Friday afternoon, Oct. 27, 2023, Leesburg police said.

The two were identified as suspects and subsequently linked to additional shoplifting incidents in Maryland and North Carolina, local police said. It's believed they swiped more than $158,000 from multiple stores, authorities said.

Each defendant has been charged with one count of grand larceny and one count of larceny with the intent to sell in connection with the Leesburg incident.

Roxana Dumitru was arrested on Friday, Jan. 26, in Prince George’s County, Maryland where she remains held at the Prince George’s County Detention Center. Ionut-Robert Ionescu was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 27, in Orange County, California where he remains held at the Orange County Jail. Both await extradition back to Virginia.
